The 7th Stellar Prize (TSP), organized by the School of Communication, Xiamen University Malaysia, was successfully concluded on 16 May 2025.
This year, TSP attracted participants from 14 universities across Malaysia, including Taylor’s University, Sunway University, UTAR, and INTI International University. With over 400 submissions, the competition reached a record-breaking milestone with the highest number of entries since its inception.
The Stellar Prize is a prestigious national competition open to all university students across Malaysia, serving as a comprehensive platform for students to showcase their artistic creativity. With the theme “PRISM”, the competition features four main categories: Writing & Publishing, Design, Photography, and Videography, with a total of 16 awards.
During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Wang Changsong, Dean of the School of Communication, warmly welcomed all guests and participants. He shared that the judges for this year’s competition included 40 professionals from both academia and creative industry, significantly enhancing the professionalism and credibility of the awards. He noted that the remarkable increase in participation reflects the growing influence of TSP, which is fast becoming one of the most prestigious and impactful competitions in Malaysia’s creative field.

The project manager of TSP, Sheldon Kong Qi Dong expressed his heartfelt thanks to all committee members, judges, sponsors, and participants. He also expressed hope that TSP would continue to grow into a vital platform for nurturing young artistic talent in Malaysia.

The awards ceremony was met with applause as the winners were announced and celebrated for their achievements.
Tan Yun Xi, a member of Six Degree Production, who won the Most Popular Video Award shared her thoughts: “This award is such a surprise! All of our team members are beginners. It was my first time handling a director position, and the first time for all of us to be involved in a video production team. I’d like to especially thank our advisor, Dr. Yong, and all the judges!”
In the Design category, Tan Pei Xin from UTAR Sungai Long was nominated for several awards and ultimately won the Best Design Award. In her acceptance speech, she sincerely thanked the judges for recognizing her work and expressed her gratitude for the support of her advisor.
Meanwhile, Madeleine Oh G-Song, a physics student at Xiamen University Malaysia, took home the Best Feature Story Award for her entry “A Taste of Malaysia”. Her storytelling and emotional depth helped her stand out among the submissions. “I submitted my piece simply out of interest,” she shared, “I never expected to win since I don’t have a journalism or communication background. This recognition means a lot to me. ”
