Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wong Shen Yuong & Student Publish in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews
2025-05-15The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Soh Mian Yu and Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Wong Shen Yuong (corresponding author) from the School of Electrical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence on their recent research article published in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews (RSER), an SCI Tier-1 journal with the latest impact factor of 16.3.
Soh Mian Yu is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, having completed his Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Hons) at Xiamen University Malaysia in September 2023. His master’s research project is supervised by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Wong Shen Yuong.
The article is the result of an international collaborative research project led by Dr. Wong, in partnership with the University of Malaya (Malaysia), the University of Pisa (Italy), and Open Energy Transition (Germany).
The study, titled "Prospect of Green Hydrogen in the Malaysian Iron and Steel Industry: Techno-economic Assessment and Energy Modelling using PyPSA-Earth", examines the feasibility of decarbonising the iron and steel sector through hydrogen-based technologies. It compares two approaches - centralised hydrogen production with pipeline distribution, and decentralised, grid-connected electrolysis - using Malaysia as a case study and the PyPSA-Earth modelling framework for analysis.

| Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Wong Shen Yuong serves as the Head of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Xiamen University Malaysia. She has recently been awarded a Research Fellowship at Tsinghua University China. She is a Professional Engineer (Peng/Ir) in Electrical Engineering registered to the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), an ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE), a Professional Technologist (Ts), a Senior Member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE), Member of Institutions of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), and Accreditation Panel of Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC). Besides, she serves as an editorial board member for several journals. |
