The Innovation and Entreprenership Centre congratulates a team of Chemical Engineering undergraduate students - Wong Yu Xin, Wang Xi, and Lex Lim Chen Wei - for clinched First Runner-Up in the Technical Presentation Competition during Oil and Gas Malaya (OGM) Industrial Week 2025.
Hosted by the University of Malaya, OGM 2025 is an event designed to bridge the gap between academia and the oil and gas industry. This week-long program brings together students, industry professionals and educators to explore the exciting opportunities and challenges within this vital sector.
The Technical Presentation Competition mainly focused on advancing carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) solutions. Students were tasked with reviewing and proposing efficient capture methods, innovative CO? applications, and safe, long-term storage strategies to help mitigate environmental impact.
This team, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Ir. Dr. Wong Voon Loong and Ir. Dr. Chan Tuck Leong (PETRONAS), presented with the title "Can CCUS Turn the Tide on Global Warming?". They were also awarded with a cash prize.
Ir. Dr. Chan is a seasoned engineer with over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, particularly in the LNG value chain. His extensive expertise spans (operations, engineering design, technical services, project development, and digital transformation) has greatly contributed to the collaboration and the success of the student team competition.
Meanwhile, another student team comprising Yap Yen Juin and Grace Theresa, also advised by Ir. Dr. Wong Voon Loong, showcased their creativity and critical thinking by participating in the Technical Infographic Poster Competition, adding another feather in XMUM's cap through their impressive display of analytical insights.
